Conus azabi (Abbass, 1977)

 

 

Description:

 

Shell small, biconical; spire conical with concave sides, numerous low whorls; whorl outline concave with posterior astragal; suture subcarinal; ornament shows four to five spiral cords sseparated by narrower interspaces; astragal carries rounded tubercles separated by interspaces equal to their own width; body whorl high, with concave, narrow, posterior shoulder, bordered by rounded edge, below which the whorl becomes inflated, then rapidly inclined inwards into long concave-sided beak; of which the anterior one-third is crossed by a number of oblique spiral cords increasing in strength posteriorly; growth lines show concavity on shoulder, opisthocline on sides; aperture (not preserved), its outline shows suboarallel inner and outer lips(1).

 

The present species differs from Conus djarianensis in MacNeil(1960, Pl.6, Figf 17, 22) which has a markedly smooth shell. It also differs from Phasmaconus martini Shuto (1969, Pl.22, Figs, 7, 10) which shows a narrower shell with a lower spire and wider shoulders without rounded edges (1).
